What removes the mildew odor from clothes when they are left in the wash machine too long?

Even after rewashing, the odor lingers. What removes the mildew odor from clothes when they are left in the wash machine too long?
Have you tried adding a cup of (white/natural)vinegar to the prewash and rewashing it?What removes the mildew odor from clothes when they are left in the wash machine too long?
Maybe it's not your clothes, maybe it's the washing machine.....
You're right. You have to fully dry the clothes and then wash them again.
There are a few things you can do: 1) Add a cup or two of white vinegar to your wash cycle along with your laundry detergent; or 2) Add 1 1/2 cups of baking soda to the wash cycle along with the laundry detergent; or 3) place the dried clothes in a large plastic garbage bag. Add a full bag of Kitty Litter to the bag. Shake it around to mix it all up and leave it to remove the odor for 2 to 3 days. Shake off the kitty litter and dispose of it. Launder the garments again. All should be sweet and clean now!
