What is the best way to get a mildew smell out of a nylon handbag that cannot be machine washed?

I came back from vacation in the Caribbean and my Baggalini nylon bag now smells like mildew. How can I get that smell out? What is the best way to get a mildew smell out of a nylon handbag that cannot be machine washed?
Zip up an open box of baking soda in it for 24 hours. Then open it up, leaving the soda in, allow to air 24 hours. If that doesn't do the trick I guarantee it will help a lot. (Unless there were sardines poured in there)

NOTE 4 Lori.... You do Not pour the baking soda into the bag, you leave it in the box with the top cut off. What is the best way to get a mildew smell out of a nylon handbag that cannot be machine washed?
Stay away from sprays and baking soda - it will be very hard to clean the inside of your bag after that.

I've had old smelly bags too and read about putting activated carbon in them. There is a product that you probably know for your refrigerator called Fridge IT odor absorbers. Well, these work really well too inside purses. Heck, I even use these inside luggage when I travel. For your bag, just put one or two inside. No chemicals to worry about and if you have the same success that I did, you'll be sold.

Anyway, check out the company blog - pretty good tips and where to buy. http://innofresh.wordpress.com/
First of all let it air out , you can spray a light mist a vinegar on it and , use baking soda ..If that doesnt work you can get some stuff called Odo Ban . It smells really good and it removes odors from many different things . it disinfects as well . You can buy it at places like Sams Costco Wal Mart ...
Spray it down with white vinegar and let it dry.

Allow it to air out to make sure it is completely dry, then place an open box of baking soda inside it for a day or two.
