How do I clean out my washing machine? It's getting that mildew stink to it.?

Maybe run an empty load through with bleach instead of soap? Is that right? How do I clean out my washing machine? It's getting that mildew stink to it.?
All You have to do is run a cold wash cycle with 1-2 cups of clorox. And as everyone before stated, leave the door open when not in use. Leaving the door open helps the machine dry out completely when not in use, therefore doing away the sour smell. How do I clean out my washing machine? It's getting that mildew stink to it.?
I have researched this a bit and know the cause of the odor. The front load washers have a plastic tub which you can't see) outside of the inner tub. since these washers use so little water the detergent doesn't rinse away completely from the palstic tub and provide a breeding ground for bacteria. to get rid of it you have to run a load with bleach once a week and make sure you only use 2 tablespoons of detergent.

Thing to use

bleach

your washing machine

cleaning rags

gloves

1Purchase a cheap gallon of bleach. The brand does not matter - they are all the same.

Step2Don the rubber gloves and some old clothes, just in case.

Step3Pour the whole gallon of bleach into your washing machine, and set it for the longest cycle. As the tub fills with HOT water, use the rags to wipe down the well for fabric softener (if applicable) and around the upper edges of the tub and into any crevices you find. (Hint: This is also a good time to wipe the dust and dirt from the lid and around the knobs.)

Step4Throw the rags into the washer, and turn it off once it is full. Allow it to sit for an hour, then turn back on to run the cycle. You should have a fresh-smelling machine that looks nice, too!
I usually set the wash level to the lowest setting. I add about half a box of Arm %26amp; Hammer Baking Soda and let the machine go through all of the cycles. Also, leave the lid up between washes. It takes that mildew smell out of mine. Hope this helps you. Good Luck. :)
Is it a front-loading washer? If it is, you have to leave the door open all the time to avoid the stink. Run a load of wash and then leave it open when it's not in use, it will lose the mildew smell pretty quickly.
do a normal wash, in the final rinse add 2 cups of white vinegar, that will deodorise the machine and your clothes, do this at least once a month, it's safe for clothes , machine and your health
Small load. At the rinse cycle one - two cups baking soda in the water. Ok for clothes and eliminates odor in anything. Also works great in the dishwasher on the rinse cycle
Yes, that will help. But start keeping your machine's door open after a wash. I keep ours open for about two hours before closing. One of my cyber friends never closes hers.
You should run the bleach through at least once a week.
a cycle with baking soda, then leave top open to air dry, to prevent mildew
try this, you will like the results.
