Leaving the clothes outside in warm temperatures will make them mildew quickly. In cold weather clothes can stay in a washer for a longer period of time (24 hours or so) without mildewing, but during the summer I have to take them out of the washer within a few hours. Leaving them outside without it being warm enough to dry them will mildew them likely within 3-4 hours. In how many hours after washing will molds and mildew attack clothes that leaves them stink? (slow drying)?
Ok, well first off, the baking soda and vinegar didn't work to remove all the bacteria under the arms. The washing didn't either. Then you left them in the washer 12 hours or so which combined with the bacteria on the clothes, the smell of vinegar, and maybe some detergent or softener residue makes them stink.
It is not the drying process that will be the fault. Best to rewash them in hotter water than normal, skip the vinegar and soda. You might want to run the washer EMPTY one full cycle on hot with a cup of Chlorine bleach added (and some detergent) and TWO rinses then rewash the clothes.
PS, although it smells bad, try using household ammonia on the underarms. Dilute it 10 to 1 with water and dab it on the area. You can use a sprayer if you are careful and upwind. Let it sit 10 minutes before starting the wash. Do this INSTEAD of the vinegar and baking soda.
Molds grow in dark, damp, and cool temperatures. Mildew grows in moist, warm temperatures.
If you cannot machine-dry the clothing, wait until morning to launder the clothing, that way you can line dry as soon as the wash cycle is finished.
You also need to use a good detergent to get the smell out and clean the fabric. Vinegar is good for a neutralizer, but won't leave your clothing smelling fresh and clean.
